Theme Translation

For safety development, we recommend you should translate the content of your site and put it into a child theme instead of making any modifications to the parent theme
Your translation in child-theme will be saved when the theme updated. Section 3 will guide you to do it
Translation also works for changing the specific text in the same language. For example, in the en_US change "tour" to "excursion" or "hotel" to "resort".
Traveler themes are ready to be translated manually. You can make them work easily in any language. Traveler read translations via .po language file so you need PoEdit software to translate the .po language file

1. Translation

Here are some steps to follow:
Step 1: Choose site language by navigating to WPAdmin > Settings > General > Site Language
Step 2: Locate the traveler.pot file in the theme's language folder themes/traveler/language.
This is the default language template file that you can change to fit your language. Open that file with PoEdit software.
Step 3: Create a new translation. Pot files are only templates and don't contain any translation themselves. To make a translation, create a new PO file based on the template
For example: Chinese(Simplified)
Step 4: Translate your words. Once done, save your language file
The filename must be followed the WordPress Locale Code. For example, zh_CN.po
Step 5: Upload your language file to the server
File .po is for human reading and editing while file .mo is for system reading. Once saved, the PoEdit software will generate a file .mo automatically from .po file.
For example zh_CN.po and zh_CN.mo
Upload both files to /themes/traveler/language folder or /themes/traveler-childtheme/language (if you are using child-theme)

2. Update full words

In each version release, Traveler may update more translatable words. You need to update these words to your .po language files
Step 1: Download the latest theme package and locate to \traveler\language\traveler.pot. This file contains all words from the latest update
Step 2: Download and open your current .po language files
Step 3: In the Poedit application, go to Translation > Update from POT file
Step 4: Locate the latest traveler.pot file from step 1
Done. You can translate the latest updated word

3. Translate from child-theme

Normally, the admin put the language file into /themes/traveler/language folder if they use only Traveler theme without child-theme. The point is those files may be overwritten when the theme updates
The best way is to put your language file into /themes/traveler-childtheme/language folder. Your language file will be saved when the theme updates
Step 1: Activate your traveler-childtheme theme
Step 2: Put your language file into /themes/traveler-childtheme/language folder

4. Translate Plugin

If you want to translate the text of the addon/plugin/extension, translate it from the .pot file inside the plugin folder
For example file traveler-smart-search.pot inside folder plugin Traveler Search Hotel VueWP
After translation, the .po language file name should be: traveler-smart-search-localecode
Example: traveler-smart-search-fr_FR.po

5. Translate text of child-theme

This section for develoepr only
Insert these codes into traveler-childtheme/functions.php. The system will know to read language files from traveler-childtheme, instead of traveler.
function child_theme_slug_setup() {
load_theme_textdomain( 'traveler', get_stylesheet_directory() . '/languages' );
load_child_theme_textdomain( 'traveler-childtheme', get_stylesheet_directory() . '/languages' );
}
add_action( 'after_setup_theme', 'child_theme_slug_setup' );
